Tiramisutra

After the last lengthy post, this post shall be succint and sweet.
I chanced upon this online cakestore when I was googling my idle time away. To my suprise, it was a famous online cakestore which I had never heard of before. Many media reports had lauded it as one of the best tiramisus around. The buzz around the internet was that Tiramisutra's cakes were soft, moist, liqour-drenched, and very delectable. I was astounded, hurt even, that all this while I had been living in 'darkness'.

And after drooling over the reviews and online pictures, I decided enough was enough and I just had to get myself a Tiramisutra Tiramisu cake. Today, my 3 days of waiting was finally over (you have to order 2 days in advance at least) and at 1pm I got my beautiful cake!

Anyway there was this cute little story of a circus elephant on Tiramisutra's cakebox. Rather whimiscal feel to it.

For the 7 inch cake that weighs 850g it can serve 8-10 people- $40
We ordered the Baileys flavour cake. You can choose between Kahlua (which is the original flavour or the Baileys (like I did) or the Tia Maria. There is even a Berry-misu cake!

Luckily I had enough commonsense to order the bigger cake. My family of 6 would have gobbled the cake in mere minutes otherwise. I'm so glad I shelled out that 40 bucks... because I had lots of second helpings!
A point to note though is that upon ordering the cake, you will be taken aback by just how small the cake seems to be.
But of course quality over quantity counts at all times... though you do wish that there was both quality and quantity.

The beautifully arranged decorations on the tiramisu cake. It was really such a shame to pierce through that sweet gorgeous layer. Look at the finely coated cocoa powder and the mascarpone cheese glimmering beneath (though I do have to share a story on the pitfalls of glimmering cakes another time)... Just sheer delicious-trocity! (word adapted from delicious + atrocity)

Can you see how much quality cream cheese they use in there? The Baileys-soaked sponge cake layers and the mascarpone cheese just oozes out as you cut through the cake.

A slice of heaven
Ok... I know many of you are dying for the verdict. Well, the cake was really fantastic. It's so soft, smooth, rich and creamy. Like what some media reports state "It melts in your mouth". Yet one gripe I have is that the cake was generally too soft for my liking. It was literally melting in my mouth! I kept worrying about how the cake was melting (outside my mouth) and how as I served the cake slices to my family, the slices would collapse and crumble. My cake slices did collapse a few times.
In other words, the cake's texture is so soft that at times it doesn't hold. Of course you might think that the cake was not refigerated properly. So we did gobble the first few slices within the first few minutes of delivery. But after 7 hours in the fridge, I took yet another bite at it and the cake was still very soft.
For those of you who enjoy eating the cake-mousse kind of texture, this cake is for you. The kind of melt-in-your-mouth goodness.
But if you would rather have your cake stand, the kind that is firm with solid cream cheese, and firm sponge layers, then you would be better off trying other cakes. Of course, everyone has to try Tiramisutra at least once in their lifetime.
The first mouthful hints of the bitter-sweetness that comes from the Baileys-soaked sponge layers, after a while a hot sensation grows onto you (and that's when you know that there's a whole load of quality Baileys liqor in that slice you have!), which ultimately leaves a sweet satisfying after taste in your mouth (that comes from the oh-so-good cream cheese!).
I love Tiramisus that melt in your mouth. This Tiramisu was really fabulous and pure delightful heaven. My mum kept persuading me to part with more slices for her (I was saving the cake slices for my sister). My whole family loves it.

You just can't help thinking about the enjoyable goodness you have just consumed.
And if you are like me, you keep wanting to go to dreamland... because the Baileys liqour has been amply used in the cake. The liqor is really strong and it gives a really good flavor to the cake. Yummy. On the whole, I really like the cake. Yet a parting point would be that if the cake was not so whobbly and squishy and could stand the test of being given out during the cake-cutting session (without collapsing), this would have definitely been a cake made in heaven. On the whole, it's a 4/5 (just for that creamy liqor-drenched wholesomeness).
